The conference will focus on a number of related themes relating to the enforcement of health and safety. It will examine the current work being done by the HSE on directors duties and the arguments in favour of reform or in continuance of the voluntary guidance. It will also look at the Health and Safety Executive’s new strategy and the role of enforcement within it, including new data on levels of inspection, investigation and prosecution, including that relating to corporate manslaughter. The conference will also look at the inquiry set up by the government into construction deaths and consider whether this is likely to lead to a reduction in deaths in the sector.
